EMCOR Services New England Mechanical Receives National Design-Build Recognition
EMCOR Firm Cited for Second Consecutive Year for Work on High-Rise Project in Shelton, CT
VERNON, CT –November 13, 2008 – EMCOR Services New England Mechanical (NEMSI), one of New England's leading mechanical services contractors, has been awarded first place in the 2008 Design/Build Award program sponsored by Contracting Business magazine, a leading national publication for HVAC contractors. It is the second consecutive year that NEMSI has won first place recognition in the magazine's Design/Build Award competition.
NEMSI is a subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses.
NEMSI was cited for its work on The Renaissance, a new high-rise residential building in Shelton, Connecticut. The company was responsible for the design and installation of the complex HVAC systems for the 16-story rental apartment/condo project.
In citing NEMSI as the first place award winner, the editors of Contracting Business stated: "Today, The Renaissance stands as not only a premiere address in Southern Connecticut, but also as a tribute to NEMSI's talents and the Design/Build process overall. The project was finished on time, on budget, and with a system of the highest quality. That's the way you keep a V.I.C. (very important customer) happy. "
"The Contracting Business Design/Build Awards program honors the most creative and innovative work being done by commercial HVAC contractors across the nation," said Dana Finnegan, President of NEMSI. "It is especially gratifying to be recognized for the second year in a row, with the first place award for Design/Build excellence."
According to Mr. Finnegan, NEMSI had to overcome several challenges in order to ensure the success of the portion of the project for which it was responsible. "The original plan called for 168 residential units, but the developer changed the plan, from all apartments to a combination of apartments and high-end condominiums, after the building's shell and much of the infrastructure was already in place," he explained. "We needed to make rapid adjustments to our program in the middle of construction, while adhering to a strict budget and tight schedule.
"Another challenge occurred during construction, when it began to appear that the team's plumbing contractor would not be able to meet the project's schedule," he continued. "The owner asked us to assist in completing the plumbing systems, and we assumed responsibility for several aspects of the plumbing installation."
